Rock identification is a hands-on skill: students learn luster, hardness and streak by testing real samples, not by reading about them. This class set gives each table group its own box of the same 24 specimens, numbered rather than labeled so the identification work is left to the students, with a teacher key to check answers.
What’s included
- 6 wooden specimen boxes with 24 compartments each
- 24 specimens per box: 6 igneous, 6 sedimentary and 6 metamorphic rocks plus 6 common minerals
- 144 specimens in total, each about 1 in across
- 6 unglazed porcelain streak plates and 6 hand lenses
- Identification key and teacher answer sheet
Grade level & classroom use: Earth science units in grades 3–8, plus high school earth science labs. Plan on one box per group of four to five students.
Care & warranty: Some specimens are soft or flaky, so handle them over the tray and avoid washing them. If a box arrives with a cracked divider or a missing sample, email us within 30 days for a replacement; the wooden boxes also carry a 1-year limited warranty.
